  1. A generalization/specialization hierarchy is quite different from a whole-part hierarchy. Consider a hierarchy where a Family contains Family Members. Which type of hierarchy is it? If a system contains this hierarchy and the system includes information only about you, how many objects are there in the system?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In a generalization/specialization hierarchy, super class gets connected with a number of subclasses. There are supertypes and subtypes.

In the whole part hierarchy, there is a system and then its components. Components are subsystems and can be divided further into other components. It is very much like composition.

Family contains family members is a generalization/specialization hierarchy.

For a number of objects, theoretically, there will be no limit. There can be as many objects as one wants. However, keeping the data structure used in mind, limitations are imposed.

Create a currency class, up to 5 individual currencies, with four attributes - currency name, whole parts and fractional parts and fractional's name such that 100 fractional parts equals 1 whole part, e.g. Pound, 1, 55, pence or Euro, 3, 33, cent. Define overloaded operators to add or subtract different currency objects - care should be taken that you can only perform these operation on objects of the same currency. Also, take care that fractional parts roll into whole parts....

Consider the energy we use everyday in routine tasks, where that energy comes from, and where it goes. When you climb stairs you overcome the force of gravity to raise yourself to some height. It does not matter what the slope of the stairs are; the work done is against gravity which is always vertical so only the height counts. Take a typical human mass of 65 kg (roughly 143 lb of gravitational pull or weight) and a stairway up...

Part II – Genetic Basis of the Disorder As Alexander’s family and you have now discovered, spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita (SEDC) is a genetic disorder in which the primary deficits are abnormal growth of one or more spinal vertebrae and the growing ends of the femurs, resulting in disproportionate, short-trunk dwarfism (Parikh & Crawford, 2017). Interestingly, both of Alexander’s parents, his grandparents and an older sister are of normal height. Therefore, what do you think the mode of inheritance is for...

We, as consumers, have become quite spoiled by the food service industry catering to our desire to get our meals exactly the way we want them. Many counter service or "fast casual" restaurant chains like Subway, Chipotle, Five Guys, Yogurtland, Shake Shack, and Zoe's Kitchen are making our meals to order (or allowing us to do so in the case of some of the yogurt restaurants) while we wait. In this type of business model, food is generally less processed...

Q1. An experiment studied the role of the complement system for clearance of bacteria from the blood of mice. Two types of mice were used in the study: C1q-knockout mice and wild type mice. The mice were infected with either antibody-coated or un-coated bacteria (in a fully factorial design, i.e, both mouse genotypes were exposed to both types of bacteria), and the clearance rate was measured during two hours after bacterial administration. Explain the protecting mechanisms (not only those involving...
