With a soil of poorly graded sand, a client desires to build a bridge with foundations resting on or socketed in the rock. To better evaluate the rock conditions, would it make sense to split up the RQD computations for this 10-foot core run. (yes or no? why?).
Ye ,Because foundation of bridge is rest on rock socketed pile and for the design of rock socketed pile we have to know the quality of rock i.e. type of joint, aperture, RQD, Number of Joint set and Spacing of joint set and water condition.
Rock quality is determined by Q system or RMR rating and for which we have to know the RQD.
Hence to evaluate the rock condition we have to go for RQD test.
RQD is Rock quality designation, which is length of sum of all core parts having size greater than equal to 10 cm devided by total length of core sample.
comment for any doubt about this solution thank you
