Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:- the values given in the question are as follows:

number of vehicles(n)=6

length of road segment(L)=988 ft

time in seconds individual vehicle 1 to 6 travel(OR, travel time in second all vhicle one to six) is 17, 18, 21, 19, 17, & 18

space mean speed(Vs)=?

calculation of space mean speed:

(Eq-1)

where, Vs=space mean speed

all values put in equation-1 and find the space mean speed(Vs)

Vs={(3.6*988*6)/(17+18+21+19+17+18)}

Vs=21340.8/110=194.0072 ft/s

space mean speed(Vs)=194 ft/s [Ans]

The department of motor vehicles wants to check whether drivers take a longer time to react after drinking two cans of beer. This was done by selecting a sample of 19 drivers and randomly assigning them to one of two groups. The reaction times (measured in seconds) in an obstacle course are measured for a group of 10 drivers who had no beer. The other group of 9 drivers were given two cans of beer each and their reaction times...
