(muti choice)Which of the following quantities can be used to identify the main mechanism for

          contaminant transport in soils.

  1. Seepage velocity
  2. Discharge velocity
  3. Hydrodyanmic dispersion coefficient
  4. Mechanical dispersion coefficient

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A) seepage velocity

Explanation:- As the contaminant is a very tiny particle whose size is less then the size of voids present between the solid particles so when we insert any tracer or contaminant in soil it travels along the voids and we already know the velocity with which water flows through soil is called as seepage velocity and this contaminant also travels with water with same velocity.

Seepage velocity equals to the ratio of discharge velocity and porosity of soil.
