Septic tank is a anaerobic suspended growth system in which raw sewage is fed directly where it is acted upon by anaerobic micro organisms.
As raw sewage is fed directly without doing any pre treatment so sewage containing oil and grease particles floats on top surface being lighter where it is removed.
After the digestion is complete the effluent is disposed of to a system constructed near the tank. It may be tile drainage, soak pits or dispersion trench etc which helps to remove the effluents and tank becomes ready to treat other sewage.
