A new road proposed in rural area from Arau to Pauh. Design the pavement for road consisting of an asphalt concrete surface, a mechanically stabilized crushed aggregate base, and a sand sub-base by using JKR Standard. The initial daily traffic volume (ADT- two way) is 8600. Percentage of commercial vehicles is 10% with annual growth rate 5%. The equivalent factor is 2.0, subgrade CBR 5%, carriageway width and shoulder width is 6m and 1.5m respectively. The design period 10 years and it is flat terrain. The surface course is asphaltic concrete and the roadbase and subbase are constructed by cement treated. By using these data, a)Determine the maximum hourly traffic capacity. b)Design the suitable thickness of this pavement structure.

A flexible pavement is constructed with 102 mm (4 inches) of hot mix asphalt (HMA) wearing surface, 203 mm (8 inches) of emulsion/aggregate-bituminous base, and 203 mm (8 inches) of crushed stone subbase. The subgrade has a soil resilient modulus of 68,950 kPa (10,000 lb/in2), and M2 and M3 are equal to 1.0 for the materials in the pavement structure. The overall standard deviation is 0.5, the initial PSI is 4.5, and the TSI is 2.5. The daily traffic has...
