1:
A grader with a 3.66 m moldboard is performing road maintenance on a township road in Al-Karak. The machine is working at an average speed of 13 km/h. The effective blade length is 3.17 meter. Assume the job efficiency of 0.90. What is the motor grader’s production based on coverage area?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Formula for motor grader's production based on coverage area :

A = S x (Le - Lo) x 1000 x E.....................................................formula (1)

where, A = Hourly operating area (m2/h)

S = Operating speed (km/h)

Le = Effective blade length (m)

Lo = Width of overlap (m)

The width of overlap can be taken as 0.6 m (Lo)

E = Job efficiency

Data from the question are as follows:

Average speed of machine = operating speed = S = 13 km/h

Effective blade length = Le = 3.17 m

Job efficiency = E = 0.9

Width of overlap = Lo = 0.6 m

Calculations

Substituting the values , [S = 13 km/h, Le = 3.17 m, Lo = 0.6 m, E = 0.9) ] in formula 1 :

A = S x (Le - Lo) x 1000 x E

A = 13 x (3.17 - 0.6) x 1000 x 0.9

A = 30069 m2/h

Answer: Motor grader's production based on coverage area = 30069 m2/h
