A square-shaped spread footing with plan dimensions of 3m x 3m is supporting a 500mm square concrete interior column. The column carries a total factored load of 2850 kN. Use 25M bars Clear cover=75mm fc’ = 25 MPa fy = 400 MPa

a) Determine the factored bearing pressure, qf, acting on the soil due to the factored load, Pf=2850kN

b) Design the footing thickness based on two-way (punching) shear requirements (Assume single shear will be satisfied). Assume that the factored concrete shear stress will be governed by:   0.38 ' c c c v f .

c) Determine/Calculate the factored moment, Mf, the minimum area of steel, Asmin, and the spacing requirements that you would use to design the flexural reinforcement for the slab. You do not need to design the flexural reinforcement.
