Minor losses lab report introduction
Introduction:
For any flow there is minor losses due to change in direction of flow and change in area of the flow and pipe fittings.
The method for reporting minor losses is by calculating the equivalent length of the pipe.
This gives us the head loss.The equivalent length can be determined by equating the darcy-weibach equation to the minor loss equation.
Darcy-weibach equation:
hf=LV^2/d2g.
Where f= Darcy friction factor
V=average flow velocity
L=pipe length
g=acceleration due to gravity
d=pipe inside diameter.
minor loss equation:
hm=K(v^2/2g).
Where K =loss coefficient.
By knowing the above parameters we can determine the equivalent length
L(eq)=Kd/f.
