Don’t worry yourself...just read and understand your book.... Q. The cement content in the mixture with 150 kg/m3 of water and water-cement ratio of 0.45 is ___________.
If moisture content is 5% and aggregate density is 500 kg/m3. The final weight of the aggregate is _______
If the moisture content of aggregate is 1% and absorption is 4%, the water contributed to the mixture is _________
...
If the fine aggregate is 300 kg/m3 and total aggregate is 1000 kg/m3, what is the weight of coarse aggregates_________

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. Cement content = (Water content) / (w/c)

= 150/0.45

Cement content = 333.33 kg

2. Aggregate density = 500 kg/m3

Moisture content = 5%

Final weight of aggregate = Aggregate density * ( 1 + moisture content)

Final weight of aggregate = 500 * (1 + 0.05)

Final weight of aggregate = 525 kg

3. Moisture content of aggregate = 1%

Absorbed water = 4%

Only moisture content contributes water to the mixture. Absorbed water is used only to adjust the quantity of aggregates.

Therefore,

Moisture contributed to the mixture = 1%

4. Fine aggregate = 300 kg/m3

Total aggregates = 1000 kg/m3

Total aggregates = Coarse aggregates + Fine aggregates

Therefore,

Weight of coarse aggregates = Total aggrgates - Fine aggregates

Weight of coarse aggregates = 1000 - 300

Weight of coarse aggregates = 700 kg/m3

Concrete is required for an interior concrete column in a commercial building in Corvallis, Oregon. A specified compressive strength, f’c , of 4000 psi is required at 28 days using an ASTM C 150 Type I. The design calls for a minimum of 3 in. of concrete cover over the reinforcing steel. The minimum distance between reinforcing bars is 2.5 in. A slump of 4 inches should be the target. No statistical data on previous mixes are available. Follow mixture...
