Answer #1

Answers-

a) Composite materials are of three type-

i) ceramic matrix

ii) Metal matrix

iii) Polymer matrix

Based on the need above three mentioned matrixes are used for different purposes which are electrical, decorative, sealant, etc

b) The main function of matrix is to hold the fibre together and transfer the stresses between reinforcing fiber. Matrix protect the fiber from environmental and mechanical damage.

Matrixes are made of Resins, metal or non metal.

Resin matrix-

  • Polyester
  • Vinyl Ester
  • Phenolic
  • Polyurethane
  • Epoxy
    Metal matrix-
  • Copper
  • Nickel
  • Silver
  • Aluminium.

c) i) Matrix as dispersed phase

ii) Matrix as continuous phase

iii) interface

d) Following role fibers play in FRC

i) Control cracking

ii) Impact and abrasion resistance

iii) In reduction of permeability in concrete thus reduces bleeding.
