The following is/are true concerning the nuclear density gauge:

a. It contains actual radioactive material

b. It returns a measure of soil density/unit weight within a few minutes

c. It returns a measure of moisture content within a few minutes d. all of the above

Homework Answers

Answer #1

d) All of the above , because

The nuclear density gauge contains a radiation source mostly radio active material like cesium is used to produce gamma radiations and is used near ground surface only while radium is used for large depth, a radiation source emits a cloud of particles and a sensor is provided that counts the recieved particles that are either passed through the soil medium to be tested or reflected by a particles of respective media and then this data is used to measure the soil density or unit weight within few minutes and is also calibrated to measures the moisture content.
