What is the purpose and importance of tying rebar together at the construction site?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The rebars are provided in concrete member to take up tension developed in concrete due to loading. The rebars are of specified diameter and at a fixed designed spacing so they take up the tension for which they were designed.During concreting due to movement of labour and equipment and pouring of concrete this spacing of rebars and their position gets adversely affected and can change substantially. This will seriously affect their effectiveness against tension.

In order to ensure that this does not happen the rebars are tied together at the construction site before pouring concrete.
