Shear strength test is used for determining the shear strength of the soil. Various experiments are being done in labs to determine the shear strength. It is a very important parameter of soil which will tell about the load it can bear at the time of construction. These may be of few types :
Vane Shear Test : This test is being used for determining the undrained stress of the cohesive soils. The shear determined here is very low around 0.5 kgf/cm2. The remolded strengths used here are being used for evaluating the sensitivity of soil.
Direct Shear Test : Direct Shear Test is being done to determine the strength of undisturbed or remolded samples. It is the most common technique used for determining the stress of the soil. The shear in this test is being determined by Mohr Failure criteria.
