Ductile and brittle are the general classification of engineering materials. Both ductile and brittle materials behaves differently when it comes to failure. For instance, failure in brittle material is sudden whereas in ductile materials we observe indications like necking prior to failure. Also in brittle materials we see gross plastic deformation lesser than that of ductile material.
