If you have 100 acres of farmland that is relatively flat and needed a pipe for it to drain into, what size pipe (diameter) would you need? Would you use a circular pipe or square? What is the difference?
the pipe would be a drain, no pavement.
Solution -
The size of pipes used in farm land varies from 8 inch to 24 inch in diameter. The selection of size depends on other factors too apart from the area of the land, like soil characteristics, rainfall, topography etc. In general we will choose an intermediate size of pipe which is neither too big nor too small.
A circular pipe is more efficient and more widely available than a square pipe so we will use a circular pipe for drainage.
Circular pipes are easily available in vary types and sizes like perforated, plain etc and they are easier to lay and work with. Also, the resistance offered in circular pipes will be less increasing it's efficiency.
