SOIL COMPACTION.

For the compaction control of an embankment, maximum dry volumetric weight of 20.06gr/cm3 and Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) of 10% are specified. The quarry material used for said embankment has a humidity of 5% on site and a volumetric weight of 1.75 gr/cm3. The embankment is built in layers 30 cm thick (considered before compaction).

Calculate:

a) The amount of water in litres/m2 that must be added on site to the quarry material in order to reach the OMC and the maximum stipulated dry volumetric weight.

b) Also determine the thickness of each layer after compacting.
