What are the different stages of coagulation? Explain briefly what happens in each stage
Coagulation is the process of removal of impurities from the water where impurities are present in small sizes. The main objective of addition of coagulants is to neutralise or increase the size of particles so that they will easily get sedimented and removed.
Steps
1) coagulants with opposite charge from that of impurity of sufficient dose are added in respect to the amount and nature of impurities present.
2) coagulants form a surface of oppositely charge and all the impurities will get start to stick to it by attraction.
3)while mixing the oppositely charged impurity-coagulant mix get neutralised and forms a floc of larger size.
4)this larger sized floc will now be able to set or can be sedimented easily as compared to earlier.
