What is the importance of drawing shear and moment diagrams in civil engineering?
generally we draw shear and bending moment diagrams along the longitudinal length of the beam.
In shear diagram, this the curve (or) line (according to shape) represents the shear force that acts along the length of the beam. whether the shear force diagram represent the negative or positive value, positive value of shear force only to be taken.
In beam stirrups (shear reinforcement) in the beam is designed based on the shear force in shear force diagram.
In moment diagram, the curve represents the bending moment along length of the beam. Positive value represents sagging and negative value represents hogging. sagging occurs at mid-span and hogging occurs at supports. Reinforcement in the beam is designed according to moment diagram.
