What is the importance of finding deflection values in civil engineering?

Deflection checks ( computing deflections) are important part of design of any structural element in civil engineering..Because a structure being safe in collapse but is not servicible i.e undergoes excessive deflections is of no use... A structure must be enough strong to bear the loads acting on it as well as should limit the deflections upto the limits provided by code...Excessive deflection may cause fear and is asthetically undesireable.. Hence it is important to find the deflections and limit them upto the vaules provided in code..
