In an interference force fit in a basic hole system, the allowance is:
(a) zero
(b)negative
(c)positive
(d)greater than the tolerance of either the hole of the shaft
(e)equal to the nominal or basic dimension

Homework Answers

Answer #1

b) Negative

In interference fit, the dia of shaft is greater than the hole dia.

As such the allowance or the clearance is negative. To fix the part pressure is applied or the part is heated so as to expand and the rapidly cooled back to its position.

These are used in fitting of rims, in car wheels, keypad pulley and shaft etc.

They are classified as Shrink Force Fit, Medium Force Fit and Tight Fit depending on the type of pressure applied.
