Answer #1

Magnitude of earthquake can be measured by an apparatus called seismographs. This magnitude called Richter magnitude.

The Richter magnitude of an earthquake is determined from the logarithm of the amplitude of waves recorded by seismographs.

The Richter scale measures the largest amplitude on the recording, but other magnitude scales measure different parts of the earthquake.

The range is in between 1 to 10 on tge richter scale.

The Richter Scale gives a mathematical model for the magnitude of an earthquake in terms of the ratio of the amplitude of an earthquake wave (also known as the intensity of an earthquake) to the amplitude of the smallest detectable wave. If we denote the magnitude of the earthquake by R, the intensity (also known as the amplitude of the earthquake wave) of the earthquake by A, and the amplitude of the smallest detectable wave by S, then we can...

According to seismologists, an earthquake that registers 2 on the Richter scale is hardly perceptible, while and earthquake that measures 5 on this scale is capable of shattering windows and dishes and is generally classified as "minor". The San Francisco earthquake in 1989 caused great damage and registered 7.1 on the Richter scale. Richter scale: M=2/3logE-2.9 M is magnitude and E is energy in Joules a.) Compare the energy release of the San Francisco earthquake to a level 5 minor...

If you live in California, the decision to purchase earthquake insurance is a critical one. An article in the Annals of the Association of American Geographers investigated many factors that California residents consider when purchasing earthquake insurance. The survey revealed that only 103 of 343 randomly selected residences in Los Angeles County were protected by earthquake insurance. Estimate with 98% confidence the proportion of all L.A. County residences that have earthquake insurance. (Round to 3 decimal places.) Complete the following...
