In situations where we have fully saturated backfill, do we or don't we solve using unit bouyancy? note that the backfill is not submerged in water but rather fully saturated

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When a backfill soil is fully submerged due to buoyancy the effective stress will be the difference of Saturated density and pore water pressure

So coming to your question when backfill is not submerging but only saturated than the effective stress will be only due to saturated density buoyancy will not be considered

Hope this helps

Pose a real-life (only one) problematic situation, where you need mechanical physics to solve it. Situations similar to those we have been working on in previous activities (A1, A2, A3 and A4). The problem must contain the following topics, without being limited to this list: 1. Conservation of Mechanical Energy 2. Conservation of linear or two-dimensional Moment. 3. Conservation of angular momentum.

1) We have a stick of unit length. We break that into 3 pieces using the following methods a. We chose randomly and independently two points on the stick using a uniform PDF, and we break stick at these 2 points b. We break the stick at a random point chosen by using a uniform PDF, and then we break the piece that contains the right end of the stick, at a random point chosen by using a uniform PDF...

Solve using periodic properties: Sin-1(sin(5π/8)) cos (16π/3) Assuming you don't have a calculator to check your work, I don't understand how to find the corresponding angle on the periodic circle. I really need a detailed explanation. I understand the math so I don't need someone showing me how to subtract 5π-2π =3π, but more so how you would know how to subtract 5-2 as opposed to 5π-4π to get π/8? I've seen people solve many questions like these different ways,...
