Answer #1

Ans : STP ( Standard Penetration Test ) is a insitu penetration test used to find the properties of soils i.e., mainly relative density of the soils.

The procedure involves a standard sample tube with specified dia and length can be driven into the ground with the help of hammer from the height 760mm. The sample tube is driven 150mm into the ground and then the no. of blows required for 150mm penetration will be noted. The test can be carried out upto the 450mm depth reached. With the help of this Blows (N) further calculations can be done.

Sources of Error:

  • Due to the heavy hammering we get undisturbed soil sample. Through which the properties of the soil are changing.
  • Hammer should be dropped form exact 760mm height.

   * No of blows can be read correctly.
