  1. A 10 ft high sharp crested weir with cd = 0.63 was constructed across the same channel given in previous question. For the above flow condition, what is the expected depth weir?

(I am referring to the last question in HW 1:

In a channel, flow is taking place with a velocity of 1.2 ft/s with a normal flow depth of 8.5 ft. The channel is a rectangular section with a width of 20 ft. Find the following:

  1. Find Q (ft3/s)
  2. Specific energy head in ft
  3. Hydraulic mean radius R in ft
  4. Froude number
  5. Decide whether it is a sub critical flow or super critical flow
  6. Find the critical depth)

Answer #1

for calculating discharge from formula of discharge over sharp crested weir was used. this discharge was later on used to calculate specific energy. hydraulic mean radius calculation is done by formula too and there is also a relation for calculation of froude number and for sub critical or super critical flow the relation for froude number greater and minimum then 1 is there.

critical depth calculation has a relation too.
