A retaining wall is 7.25m high. The soil supported consists of 4.5m sand (ɤ = 17.5kN/m3, ɸ=35o) overlying saturated sandy clay (ɤ=19.2kN/m3, ɸ=30o, c=16.6kN/m2). The ground water level is at the upper surface of the sandy clay.
Calculate the pressure distribution at different heights and make a sketch of the distribution of active pressure on the wall stating the principal values.
