Which would consolidate faster, soils that are normally consolidated or soils that have been compacted with a sheepsfoot roller?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The soils which are normally consolidated are already having a stress equal to the preconsolidated stress and hence the primary consolidation is very less and very slow.

on the other side, the soils compacted with a sheep foot roller are just compacted and do not have any consolidated load on them. When allowed to consolidate, they would undergo a faster and larger consolidation.

Therefore, the soils which are compacted by a sheep foot roller consolidate faster.
