Ozone (O3) causes stipple and fleck on the upper surface of the leaf.

When ozone enters the leaves of plants through small openings called stomata they cause the burning of cells and tissues which makes sugar ( food ) for plants during photosynthesis, this develops brown patches on the leaf surface of the palnt and it is called stipple and fleck which are also the rounded patches or stains.

Ozone is formed by the reaction of Nox and volatile organic carbon in the presence of sunlight.
