An Engineering consultant appointed on the construction of a Bridge site decided to conduct the Plate load test to get fair idea about the bearing capacity of the sub soil. The test was conducted on a circular plate of 200 mm radius at a depth of 1.20 m below the natural ground surface in pure clayey soil. The failure took place at a load of 55000N. Calculate the safe bearing capacity of a 1.2 x 1.4 m rectangular footing founded at a depth of 1.75 m in the same sub-soil. Consider the factor of safety & bulk unit weight unit of 2.25 & 19.8 kN/m3 respectively.

Plate load test is adopted globally to determine in-situ bearing capacity of the subsoil and considered as one of the most important field test for any big construction project. A plate load test was conducted on a 300 mm side square plate at a depth of 1.10 m below the ground level in pure clayey soil for an important construction site. Failure of the soil occurred at a load of 45 kN. A. Calculate the safe bearing capacity of a...

A plate load test was carried out on a sand soil at the expected foundation depth on a circular plate of 45 cm diameter. Failure of the soil below plate occurred when the applied load on plate reached 734 kg. If a square footing of 3 m width is going to be constructed on the same soil and at the same testing depth, what will be the allowable bearing capacity in kg/cm2. (Take F.S = 3).
