discuss why their is an increase in use of steel as opposed concrete in constructions

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Following are the reason of increase in use of steel over concrete..

* Steel has the highest Strength to Weight ratio out of all building materials that is the main and important reason that it is used over concrete.

* Concrete has 0 scrap value, hence the dismantled concrete material is of no use and on the other hand steel can be recycled and can be used as reinforcement in RCC construction..thus posses +ve scrap value..

* With the addition of passive fire protection over structural steel, it can sustain large and large temperature.

* One of the most important reason is that the steel is a ductile material and hence gives sufficient warning before failure unlike concrete..hence finds its use in seismic prone areas..

We continue with the Concrete dataset. Concrete is a central product for most modern constructions and is used in homes, roads, and commercial structures and there are many other building applications. Concrete colums are constructed with reinforcing steel in them to make them stronger and more ductile. The reinforcing bars are designated by size, with the size being the diameter in eights of an inch. For example, a #5 bar is 5/8 inch in diameter. A 10 inch square concrete column is constructed with eight #5 bars. A 60000 pound load is applied to this column. The modulus of elasticity of the reinforcing steel is 29x106 psi, while the modulus of...
