True or False: Dense Graded and Well Graded soil are considered the same. In addition, Gap Graded, Uniform Graded and Open Graded Soil are considered the same. Explain your answer to both statements.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

True

Well graded soil have particles of nearly all sizes ranging from fine particle to coarser particles so the void that are formed between the coarse particle get filled with the particle finer than the coarser particle and consequently the soil become dense. So dense graded and well graded are more or less same thing.

However gap graded soil have some range of size missing and uniformly graded soil have soil particles with almost one same size . In these scenario the void obtained in thw mesh of coarser particles remain hollow as all the particles arw of same size, so tge soil can be said openly graded
