When designing a culvert, you calculate the required diameter under both inlet and outlet control conditions. Which of the diameters do you select? Explain

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In design of culvert the standardized manner by which culverts are examined and designed is :-

1:- The design approach involves first computing the headwater elevation upstream of the culvert assuming that inlet control governs.

2:- The headwater elevation upstream is then also found assuming that outlet control governs.

3:- Now the two headwater values are compared with one another and the higher of the two is selected. so culvert can be either design for the inlet diameter or for the oultlet diameter based on the results from step 1 & 2 and their comparison.

So if you deigned the culvert under both inlet and outlet control conditions then you have to choose the one in which there is higher head on the upstream of the culvert.

if helpful give ?.

thank you.

Calculate the entropy change of the UNIVERSE when 2.054 moles of N2O(g) react under standard conditions at 298.15 K. Consider the reaction N2O(g) + 3H2O(l)2NH3(g) + 2O2(g) for which H° = 683.1 kJ and S° = 365.6 J/K at 298.15 K. Is this reaction reactant or product favored under standard conditions? If the reaction is product favored, is it enthalpy favored, entropy favored, or favored by both enthalpy and entropy? If the reaction is reactant favored, choose 'reactant favored'.

Suppose you need to control the speed of a motor that takes 1200W at full power. This is typical of a big domestic vacuum-cleaner or a washing-machine motor, and is a little more power than a single-bar electric fire uses. First, you try the obvious method: a variable resistor in series, and no other complications. If you adjust the resistor to have a very high value so little current passes, this will make the motor run very slowly or stop....
