What will do if the slab becomes unsafe in the check for shear?

Answer #1

It depends on what type of slab.

Normal roof slabs are always designed without the need for shear reinforcement i,e safe under shear. If slab becomes unsafe under shear in this case, depth need to be revised. Increase in depth of slab makes it safe under shear.

Flat slabs have high shear near column supports hence depth and area of column head should be increased.

In slabs like footing slabs of combined footing where large point loads of column create very high shear in the slabs. These are special type of slabs where shear reinforcement in the form of stirrups is provided similar to beams.

An engineer is designing an experiment to test if airplane engines are faulty and unsafe to fly. The engineer expects 0.0001% of engines to be unsafe. The null hypothesis is that the probability of an unsafe engine is less than or equal to 0.1% and the alternative hypothesis is that the probability the engine is unsafe is greater than 0.1%. We consider two types of errors in the hypothesis testing: a Type I error and Type II error. A Type...

A beam of light traveling in air strikes a glass slab at an angle of incidence less than 90°. After entering the glass slab, what does the beam of light do? A) It follows the same path as before it struck the glass. B) It follows the normal to the glass slab. C) It bends away from the normal at the point of contact. D) It bends closer to the normal at the point of contact. E) It slows down.
