What will do if the slab becomes unsafe in the check for shear?
It depends on what type of slab.
Normal roof slabs are always designed without the need for shear reinforcement i,e safe under shear. If slab becomes unsafe under shear in this case, depth need to be revised. Increase in depth of slab makes it safe under shear.
Flat slabs have high shear near column supports hence depth and area of column head should be increased.
In slabs like footing slabs of combined footing where large point loads of column create very high shear in the slabs. These are special type of slabs where shear reinforcement in the form of stirrups is provided similar to beams.
