If cement = 175 kg, sand = 375 kg, gravel = 675 kg, water = 105 kg. Find mix proportions ratio.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Mix proportion of a concrete is the ratio of weight of cement to weight of sand to weight of gravel.

These proportions are found out by using mix design. Design mix are adopted for constructions that need higher strength than the nominal mixes. After experimenting the individual constituents of concrete, the values of various experiments were used to evaluate the mix proportion.

In the question, ith is given that:

Weight of cement = 175 kg

Weight of sand =375 kg

Weight of Gravel = 675 kg

Weight of water = 105 kg

Mix proportion = 175 : 375 : 675

Dividing each term by 175

So, Mix proportion is 1 : 2.143 : 3.857

Water cement ratio is the ratio of cement to water. It is an important parameter that governs the strength of the mix. Any variation in the ratio can adversely affect the strength of concrete.

Water cement ratio = 175/105

W/C =  1.67

At 0°C the latent heat of the ice<-->liquid transition is 3.34 × 105 J/kg. Clean water can be cooled a few degrees below 0°C without freezing on an ordinary time-scale, even though ice would have lower G.
