In the field a surveyor measured the slope distance and zenith angle from point K to point M. The slope distance was recorded in the field book as 873.20 ft.. Unfortunately the surveyor forgot to record the zenith angle. The elevation of point K is 1329.84 ft and the elevation of point M is 1280.65 ft. The instrument and rod heights were equal at the time of measurement.

  1. What is the horizontal distance between points K & M?

  2. What is the vertical distance between points K & M?

  3. What is the zenith angle?

Placed an instrument at point K, and aligning the horizontal circle of the instrument at zero with point P, a horizontal angle to the right was measured to point D which resulted in 112 ° 58'07 ”. The north and east coordinates of point D respectively are 1063.713m and 1103.004m. The measured horizontal distance between points P and K is 40.811m. The north and east coordinates of point K respectively are 1091,832m and 1019,207m. Calculate the coordinates of point P.

The slope distance between two mountain peaks determined by an EDM measurement is 23,464.50m. The vertical angle at the lower of the two peaks to the upper peak is +3°02'05". The reciprocal vertical angle at the upper peak is −3°12'55". The height of the instrument and the height of the target at the ends of the line are assumed to be equal. Compute the difference in elevation between the two peaks first by using only the single vertical angles and...
