Blast furnace slag cement can be used in effluent treatment plants due to its' high corrosion resistance.

Molten slag is used in the manufacturing of slag cement. This molten slag has high calcium content, which makes the cement corrosion resistant. This molten slag is then rapidly quenched with water and granulated blast furnace is obtained, it has glassy appearance. It is then mixed with cement clinker in a proportion of 25-65% and is then finely grinded.

Its initial strength is less as compared to OPC and has a low heat of hydration.
