If the liquid film resistance is 5 times that of the gas film for a gas absorption process, by how much would the rate absorption change if the liquid film coefficient could be doubled without changing other parameters?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given , Liquid resistance = 5x

gas resistance = x

Total resistance = 5x2 /6x = 5x/6

Now, K of liquid is two times the old K.

So, resistance will be 1/2 of old resistance.

So,

liquid resistance = 2.5x

gas resistance = x

Total resistance = (2.5x)*(x) /(2.5x+x)

=5x/7

We know rate is inversly proportional to resistance.

So,

New rate / old rate = old resistance / new resistance

= (5x/6) / (5x/7)

= 7/6

New rate / old rate = 1.167 times increase in rate

Percentage change = 16.7%

In an absorption tower (or absorber), a gas is contacted with a liquid such that one or more components in the gas is transferred in the liquid. A stripping tower (stripper) also involves a gas contacting a liquid but components are transferred from the liquid into the gas. A process consisting of an absorber and a stripper is used to separate the components of a gas containing 35.0 mole% CO2 and the balance CH4. This gas is fed to the...

Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) of a Silicon Thin Film onto a Wafer: Solid, nonporous silicon thin films can be laid down onto wafer surfaces by the following chemical vapor deposition ( CVD) process: SiH 4 (g) ? Si (s) + 2 H 2 (g) . It is desired to deposit a very thin film of Si on a wafer surface. Usually, CVD processes are carried out at very low system pressure and high temperature using a reactor like the one...
