Describe the attributes of glycolysis with respect to:
i) oxygen requirement; and
ii) ATP yield (high/low, fast/slow).
Glycolysis is the process of converting glucose C6H12O16 into pyruvate CH3COCOO- and H+.
here, Glucose using only atomic oxygen (O) not O2 for this conversion , that is it an oxygen independent reaction. but the product pyruvate further may use atmospheric oxygen to metabolize(aerobic), otherwise it is called anaerobic metabolization.
Now, for aerobic respiration; the ATP yield will be more or high,not directly but from pyruvate and NADH + H+ .
