Rose gold is an alloy which consists of 25 % copper and 75 % gold. Identify the solute and solvent in this homogeneous mixture.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The alloys are prepared by heating the constituent metals in desired proportion so that they all attain a molten state and mix homogenously like a solution. In solid-solid solution, the constituent present in greatest proportion is considered as solvent. Rest other constituents present in a quantity lesser than the solvent are called solutes.

In rose gold, gold (75%) is present in highest proportion, thus it is the solvent. Copper (25%) is treated as solute.
