What are enzymes and what do they do for the cell? Why does a cell need so many different kinds of enzymes?

Enzymes are biological molecules which function as catalysts in chemical reactions. Enzymes enable reactions to occur in a cell. without the enzymes, the reaction would be too slow.

Different enzymes are needed by the cell since each cell has a specific function. Also the enzymes are specific on the kind of substrates that they catalyze. For example, the enzymes could be either anabolic or catabolic depending on whether they are building up substances or breaking them down
