1. The absorption maxima observed is due to n--->pi* transition. If a solvent is added to it, the maxima will shift towards lower wavelength. this is due to the fact that lone pair of electron on bromine can interact strongly with solvent molecule and n orbital is stabilize. Whereas pi* orbital is much less afeefected. As a result the transition energy is increased and wavelength shifts towards a shorted wavelength.
2. Sovent added will show peak in the electronic sprectrum. For example if acetone is used as solvent a peak will be obsered at 271 nm along with usual peak of bromine.
