an alcohol is an organic group which contains R-OH group... The R group might be as simple as a methyl, CH3 group or as complex as a CH3CH2CH2 etc.. chains... the important part is the OH group-

In biology, this is used as fuel and caloric content for many species.

types of alcohols:

primary --> attached to a carbon which is bonded to only 1 carbon

secondary--> attached to a carbon which is bonded to only 2 carbons

tertiary--> attached to a carbon which is bonded to only 3 carbons
