When doing sublimation, what effect does the ice breaker on top of the Petri dish, have, if any, on the sublimation process (any effect on vapor pressure)? Would the ice bath affect the compound’s vapor pressure? Don’t think so, but just curious

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The role of ice beaker on top of the Petri dish is to cool the innoculated Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) type substances placed in the petri dish, which require to be kept at low temperatures. The ice beaker in ideal situation would have negligible effect on the vapour pressure of the compound as it does not come in direct contact with the compound to be sublimated.

I'm doing a chemistry lab, where I have to determine the molar mass of an unknown after finding the vapor density. So basically, I have to put 3 test-tubes in a hot water bath, after measuring their volume, and mass the test tube + condensed unknown. So, if, hypothetically, there was some unknown liquid left in the test tube when we were massing the test tube after we heated them, how would the experimental molar mass change? Would it increase...

1. what effect does increasing the sample size have on the population standard deviation? If the sample size increases then the sample standard deviation will be decreases. But in this sentence, it is not a sample standard deviation. Every answer in CheggStudy is decrease. I think sample size doesn't affect to the population standard deviation. 2. What effect does recrystallization expected to have on the melting point of your product? Briefly explain why. I know that recrystillzation is a method to purify a desired product and depending how well or poor the process was done, it will affecting the melting point range. So if the recrystallization product is done well, then the melting point range will be very small indication that the desired product is near pure and vice versa. However, I can't seem to figure...
