An Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction lab
Hi I was just hoping that someone would be able to help me find the limiting reagent and theoretical yield. It is for the nitration of methyl benzoate. We are using 0.90 ml of methyl benzoate and adding 3.0 ml of H2SO4 and 1.0 ml of nitric acid. We will be adding 1.0 ml of sulfuric acid to the 0.9 ml of methyl benzoate. Then we will mix 2.0 ml of sulfuric acid to the 1.0 ml of nitric acid. Then combine the two mixtures. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
The nitration of methylbenzoate to produce meta-nitromethylbenzoate, if we are using only one mole of HNO3 if you going to add excess of HNO3 it adds to the another meta possition.
Then the limitting reagent The limiting reagent in a chemical reaction is the substance that is totally consumed when the chemical reaction is complete. The amount of product formed is limited by this reagent, since the reaction cannot continue without it. In the nitration reaction methylbenote a limitting reagent from the above explanation it will going to decide the product yield. if nitrogen in excess not a deciding factor of the product yield
Then the limiting reagent is methylbenzoate.
Theoretical yield caculation:-
