What is the difference between an aldose and a ketose?
Aldose: Aldose is a type of monosaccharide which have an aldehyde group. The simplest molecule of aldose sugar will contain 2 carbons out of which one contains aldehyde group. Aldose sugar can isomerise to ketose.
Ketose: Ketose is a type of monosaccharid which have a ketone group. The simplest molecule of ketose sugar will contain 3 carbons out of which the middle one contains ketone group. Ketose sugar can isomerise to aldose only when ketone group is at the end of the molecule.
