A 1.25 M solution of acid HA is 19.2% dissociated. What is the pH of this solution?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

                   HA (aq) <-------> H+ (aq)   + A- (aq)

Initial             1.25                  0                0

equilibrium     1.25-X               X                 X

given X = 19.2 % of 1.25 = ( 19.2/100) x 1.25 = 0.24 = X

hence [H+] = X = 0.24 M

pH =-log [H+]

= -log ( 0.24)

= 0.62
