How would I measure out 25% dichloromethane and 25% hexane in a 25mL vial? Is that just 12.5mL of each solvent?

Same thing for 50% DCM/hexane in a 50mL vial. Is that just 25mL DCM and 25mL hexane?

Answer #1

Yes, your assumption is correct. In both the cases, the given percentages can be considered as 1:1.

In case of 25 % dichloromethane (DCM), and 25 % hexane in 25 mL vial, you can take any amount lesser than 12.5 mL of each solvent (since the maximum capacity of the vial is 25 mL) but with equal amounts (lets say 1 mL of DCM and 1 mL of hexane and so on up to 12.5 mL of DCM and 12.5 mL of hexane.

Same is the case with 50 % DCM and hexane. You can take any amount of solvent (maximum 25 mL since the capacity of the vial is 50 mL) from 1 to up to 25 mL each.

Which solvent system is more polar 30% Acetone/70% Hexane OR Ethanol? How would you be able to tell this from a column chromatography? I am just confused about this. I think that it would be Ethanol. But I am unsure how to tell that from the column chromatography because wouldn't the more polar solvent take the beta carotene with it instead of the chlorophyll?

How would you work these out to find the correct answer for each? You measure a pendulum's string length to be 0.26 meters and the mass of the bob to be 186 grams. What is the theoretical value for this pendulum's period? I am trying to figure out how to find the test statistic using Excel. I understand the formula- that I need to use parameter 'p' and 'normal distribution' ….z= sample proportion and minus the 'population portion' then we divide p*q and divide n -sample size. I understand how to populate the data in the formula. I just can't figure out how to solve this using Excel. (my only option with my class) I need step by step directions if possible....

How do you count the vlanece electrons for for [Fe(CO)4]2-? I cannot figure out how to get 16 or 18 using the donor pair method or the netural ligand method. For some reason I cannot figure out electron counting, depsite watching videos. In the exmplaes it all makes sense, until I try to do one on my own.
