List all substrates and enzymes involved in the Electron Transport Chain

List all substrates and enzymes involved in the Electron Transport Chain

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Electron transport in the ETC is coupled to proton transfer from the matrix to the intermembrane space. Electron generated from the TCA cycle does enter the ETC, but not in the intermembrane space, but in the mitochondrial matrix

Electron carriers in ETC include Ubiquinone and cytochrome C.. ETC consists of a series of four complexes of electron carriers, namely Complex I --->Coenzyme Q--->Complex III (cytochrome a, b, c)--->Complex IV (cytochrome oxylase). Arrows indicate transfer of electrons.

Prosthetic groups, such as iron-sulfur centres are directly involved in electron transfer

ETC consists of a series of four complexes of electron carriers, namely Complex I --->Coenzyme Q--->Complex III (cytochrome a, b, c)--->Complex IV (cytochrome oxylase).

All the complexes that take part in the ETC are embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane where ETC takes place.
