Describe the difference between the equivalence point and the end point of a titration.
Why we do use indicator in titration reactions?
Equivalance point: The point at which number of moles of titrant is equal to the number of moles of analyte.
End point: The point at which physical change is occur during the titration is called end point.
Indicator are used in the reaction to identify the end point of the reaction. Indicator exbhits different colours in different mediums.
Example:
Titration of NaOH with HCl:
For this titration phenolphthalein indicator is used.
This indicator is color less in acid medium HCl and exhibit pink color in basic medium NaOH.
. At equivalance point the number of moles of HCl is equal to the number of moles of NaOH. After the equivalance point addition of small amount of HCl to NaOH the. The color of NaOH is changes to pink to colour less. This is end point.
