4. You have been given 2 compounds, [Co(NH3)5(SO4)]Be and [Co(NH3)5Br]SO4, in separate vials. However you do not know which compound is in each vial. How would you determine qualitatively which compounds are in each vial by using instrumental and chemical techniques. (10)

Answer #1

by using AgNO3

If you add AgNO3 solution to both the compounds [Co(NH3)5(SO4)]Br will give AgBr precipitape    but [Co(NH3)5Br]SO4 will not give any precipitape.

by using BaCl2

If you add BaCl2 solution to both the compounds [Co(NH3)5(SO4)]Br will not give any precipitape    but [Co(NH3)5Br]SO4 will give BaSO4 precipitape.

by colour

[Co(NH3)5Br]SO4      violet colour

[Co(NH3)5(SO4)]Br    red colour

Coordination Compound Naming! I have 6 compounds to name. I named all 6, but please check my answer and if wrong, please explain why and how to do it. Thank you so much! 1. [Pt(NH3)4Cl2]SO4  - tetraamminedichloroplatinum (IV) sulfate 2. K3[Mo(CN)6F2] - potassium hexacyanodifluoromolybdenate (V) 3. K[Co(EDTA)] - potassium ethylenediaminetetraacetate cobaltate(III) Note: For the cobalt oxidations state, I calculated it to be +3 because EDTA has a charge of -4 and and K is +1. So, it needs to be +3...

I have provided the information for the lab below. I want to see the chemical reactions that take place during each step of the experiment. So in the procedures when a chemical was added i would like to see what the products and byproducts that were formed. I also want to see one over all reaction for this experiment to just get an overview of what exactly is happening during the experiment. Thank you:) Part B: Synthesis of [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 Objective:...

How do you count the vlanece electrons for for [Fe(CO)4]2-? I cannot figure out how to get 16 or 18 using the donor pair method or the netural ligand method. For some reason I cannot figure out electron counting, depsite watching videos. In the exmplaes it all makes sense, until I try to do one on my own. Anyways, using the donor pair method, the COs would contribute 2e- each, so 8e- total. Then iron would be in the -2...

In the lab you are given 4 bottles, each containing about 5 grams of finely powdered white substance. Located near the bottles are four lables which indicate that each bottle contains a high purity substance. One bottle contains glucose ( C6H12O6) another bottle sodium chloride (NaCl), another aluminum oxide (Al2O3), and another zinc sulfate (ZnSO4). Assume that these labels belong to the bottles and that each bottle conatins a single substance. Describe the tests that you could conduct to determine...
